Dr. Nga (pronounced “Na”) and Dr. Emerald are both Board-Certified orthodontists, which means they belong to a group of elite orthodontists who are recognized for their excellent diagnosis and treatment planning skills, and their high-quality results. Only one out of three orthodontists are certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
The two doctors met while completing their dental training at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where they each completed their four-year dental school training to earn their Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees, and then stayed on to further complete a three-year orthodontic specialty residency program while earning a Masters degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences.
Dr. Nga and Dr. Emerald are orthodontic specialists who are committed to helping you achieve a healthy, beautiful, and confident smile in a caring and comfortable environment.
DR. EMERALD NGUYEN
Dr. Emerald Nguyen was born and raised in San Jose,CA, and has had the passion to become an orthodontist since going through her own braces treatment as a teen. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychobiology and invitation to the prestigious academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa.
Afterwards, she returned to Northern California to attend her first choice dental school at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She graduated with invitation to the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU). Dr. Emerald stayed on at UCSF to complete her specialty residency in orthodontics and simultaneously earned a Masters degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. During her residency at UCSF Orthodontics, she also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Emerald Nguyen is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Nguyen's favorite activities include gardening, traveling the world, camping, cooking and exploring new food scenes with her husband, Richard, who is a phenomenal cook, and daughter.

DR. NGA HOANG
Dr. Nga Hoang grew up in the East Bay, just a couple miles from the practice, and is proud to call it her home. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with Highest Honors from UC Davis. She then received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UCSF, where she also completed her residency in Orthodontics and Masters of Science degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. She was awarded the Joseph E. Johnson Clinical Award from the American Association of Orthodontists for her Master’s research, and she has published her research in Progress in Orthodontics.
Dr. Hoang stayed on after residency as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF to teach the next generations of orthodontists while pursuing a career in private orthodontic practice. She is passionate about giving back to her community so she volunteers her time as an orthodontic professor at the La Clinica De La Raza Orthodontic Night Clinic in Oakland, CA. Dr. Nga Hoang is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Hoang loves making her patients smile, and when she’s not practicing orthodontics, she enjoys watching sports, hiking, reading, and traveling the world with her husband, Ravi, and two children.
